Puppets on the Park

A series of theatre and workshops aimed at entertaining children of all ages during the October school holidays.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is a not-for-profit performing arts theatre company that has been entertaining people for 40 years. The events introduce children to the world of puppetry and encourages their curiosity and imagination and creates a good memory of their visit to Shoppe on Langley Park.

Tickets – $10 per head + booking fee.

All ticket revenue will go to supporting the Salvation Army. Tickets are for children only. Adults are welcome free.

There are four event types in the series that families can choose from.

  1. Puppet Playtime runs on 30 Sept & 4 Oct. Suitable for 3-6 yrs
  2. Hand Puppet Workshops run on 1 & 5 Oct. Suitable for 4-12 yrs
  3. Junk Puppet Workshop runs on 3 Oct. Suitable for 8+ yrs
  4. Paper Puppet Workshops run on 2 & 6 Oct. Suitable for 6-12 yrs.
Puppet Playtime

Puppet Playtime is an interactive experience specially crafted for children aged 3 – 6. Designed to nurture their creativity and love for storytelling, each session brings a beloved children’s book to life through the art of puppetry.

Listen: Gather round as our talented performer presents the story in their unique performance style.

Create: Explore the story and its themes through creative play activities. Adults / caregivers are essential to this part of Puppet Playtime and at every session there will be something to create and take home to treasure.

Play: Engage in puppet play, making sounds and music, games, and other interactive play. Listen to the story retold with your creation in hand and see your child’s imagination soar!

Hand Puppets
Dates: 1st October & 5th October
Times: 10:00am – 11:30am daily
Location: Twilight Room, Shoppe on Langley Park
Suitable for Ages: 4-12 years

Entertain the kids these school holidays with a simple puppetry workshop, perfect for younger kids!

Let one of the highly trained teaching artists from Spare Parts Puppet Theatre Company guide you through the process of making your own puppet from scratch.

Start with our basic recycled hand puppet foundation and then build any character imaginable from an array of recycled materials and items.

Paper Puppets
Dates: 2nd & 6th October
Times: 10:00am – 11:30am daily

Suitable for Ages: 6 – 12 years
 

A whole world of curious creatures can be discovered with a few egg cartons, newspaper and a lot of crumpling, folding and sticking. From a material that usually ends up in the bin comes a menagerie of paper puppets. Learn new skills in craft, recycling, and of course puppet making, applying simple techniques to create and perform with unique, epic puppets these school holidays!

Junk Puppets
Date: 3rd October
Times: 10:00am – 11:30am daily
Location: Twilight Room, Shoppe on Langley Park
Suitable for Ages: 8+years

Transform trash into treasure these school holidays!  

Using Spare Parts Puppet Theatre’s flare for finding the beauty in recycled materials, kids can unleash their creativity, crafting fantastical creature puppets from recycled materials and basic tools.  

Dive into problem-solving, technology, and puppetry design principles in a hands-on, imaginative adventure that teaches fundamental puppet making skills. This workshop offers new challenges and a more mature approach to puppet making, introducing kids to skills in using power tools, saws, and hammers!
