On Sunday, 21st September, Shoppe on Langley Park hosted the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival. Organised by the Chinese Mums Association of WA and MOSTWA, our precinct welcomed the event and transformed into a vibrant hub of festivity, colour, and cultural celebration.
The event attracted over 15,000 attendees, three times more than the 2024 edition!
Highlights from the Mid-Autumn Festival Day
From the colourful lantern displays to the lively stage performances, the festival brought together more than 15,000 people of all ages to enjoy traditional food, hands-on activities, and a genuine celebration of culture and community. The event’s immersive setup, complete with Chinese lanterns, calligraphy scrolls, and moon-themed light installations, transformed Shoppe on Langley Park into a stunning visual and cultural experience.
The Mid-Autumn Festival was a true cultural showcase. The day featured:
- 20 live stage performances of music, dance, and fashion,
- A Youth Art Exhibition & Competition,
- Hands-on cultural activities for families,
- A bustling marketplace of food and craft stalls,
- And an immersive moon-themed décor experience that made every corner of Shoppe on Langley feel festive.
Mid-Autumn Festival in Perth: An Immersive Experience into the Chinese Culture
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is one of the most cherished celebrations in Chinese culture—second only to the Lunar New Year in significance. Traditionally a time for family reunions, storytelling, and appreciation of the harvest moon, it embodies the spirit of togetherness and cultural heritage.
Hosted at Shoppe on Langley Park, this year’s festival welcomed visitors to celebrate and experience this tradition first-hand, offering a day full of colour, culture, and community. Families, friends, and curious visitors filled the precinct, eager to discover Chinese culture. Crowds gathered around the bustling market stalls, games, and displays, enjoying delicious food, shows and taking part in the many fun activities and festivities.
The lantern-making workshop gathered many kids and adults, becoming one of the festival’s favourites. Lanterns play a big part in the Mid-Autumn Festival, symbolising light, hope, and good fortune. Participants got creative, decorating their own paper lanterns to take home, keeping the beautiful tradition glowing. At the calligraphy stall and the shadow puppet show, visitors explored traditional Chinese art forms, learning through hands-on experiences.
Throughout the festival, the Youth Painting Exhibition showcased incredible works by young Perth artists as part of the 2025 WA Multicultural Youth Painting Competition. The paintings captured unique perspectives of Asian landscapes, portraits, and cultural scenes, each expressing its own distinct charm. Displayed within the precinct, they drew plenty of admiration from passers-by.
The festival also featured a Grand Opening Ceremony, where Deputy Lord Mayor of Perth Bruce Reynolds, MLC and Parliamentary Secretary Hon. Pierre Yang, and Jingshu Li, along with the President of the Chinese Mums Association of WA, took to the stage to celebrate the importance of cultural connection and community events like this one.
Chinese folk dances, classical music solos, choral pieces and a festive parade were performed throughout the day, bringing the precinct to life. Each performance shone a spotlight on the creativity and talent within Perth’s Chinese-Australian community, creating nearly two hours of cultural immersion.
The day concluded with the Youth Painting Exhibition Award Ceremony, which rewarded some of the best pieces and artists that had been showcased during the day in the precinct. Selected for their creativity, technique, and cultural relevance, these prize-winning artworks remained on public display at Shoppe on Langley Park for two weeks following the festival, allowing even more visitors to enjoy the creativity of these young artists.
A Community Effort Worth Celebrating
We’re proud to have contributed to the success of this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival by hosting it in our precinct. Organised in partnership with the Chinese Mums Association of WA, MOSTWA, The Western Australian Museum of Chinese Art and our Production Partner, we were delighted to see the event bring together a diverse community eager to learn about and engage in this important celebration of Chinese heritage.
